I might be taking a look at this story in the next week or so. It was on my mind this morning, early, during my walk.

Just went over Detours, and invariably, this always follows.

And it may be one of my favorite stories I've written, so far...

And I feel like yeah, this is a pretty good story. Long, but in a pretty good place.

If I had a day, I'd go to the beach. Especially since it's supposed to be so warm in the next few days.

But there are words on other projects to be written.

In the meantime, this is down to 130,930 words. Something for which I am quite happy.

Long yes, but a big family saga, and I'm happy with it.

Very happy.

But only in the story. pages-wise, it's a little lopsided.

Out of 230 pages, I'm at 142. The last third of the story is LONG, encompassing not only Dylan, but his father too. That wasn't planned, just came about during the writing process, confirming no matter how tight the outline, there is ALWAYS room for spontaneity.

Added to the one scene I knew was in need. So now, back to whittling away. It's under 132K, down around the upper 131,700's. Or maybe just over 131,800, with those extra sentences. But prepositions are being removed from the ends of sentences, a few phrases turned around. The sort of editing when a manuscript is close, bits and bobs in need of light work.

Rewarding, as I know this story is pretty well sorted.... NANO manuscripts are special!

a revolving door of editing various projects, trying to hammer into shape as many as are ready. this one is pretty close, and having just trimmed another 2K off of Detours, it was time to jump right into this one.

not expecting to remove that much, but maybe 2-300 words, or a little more. one scene in particular needs some work, but that might mean adding a few sentences. so averaging what will be eliminated, plus what will be included, 2-300 words is my guess.

we will see...

but this one, I like. written last November, for NANO 2008, it's good. I like the feel, the theme. it's a little long, but not as long as Detours. and well, will give me something to do until July, when I actually start writing again...

going to read an excerpt next month of KFJC, which will be interesting.

feeling like it's in a pretty good place. now, if only Detours was as set.

can't publish the sequel before the prequel... sigh....
